The 172-room Thompson Houston, Houston’s newest luxury lifestyle hotel, debuted in February with unobstructed views of the downtown skyline, a spa sanctuary, and 17,000 square feet of event space in a new-build, exposed-steel tower designed by HOK architects.
The interiors, created by Houston-based firm Abel Design Group, feature warm earthy colors, organic materials, brass fixtures and hardwood floors. The guest rooms, including 34 suites, have floor-to-ceiling windows and are designed to evoke old Texas, with custom-made furnishings and spacious bathrooms. Hydration stations are available on each floor, as are daily newspapers and complimentary fresh fruit.
"We’re thrilled to offer guests and locals an unparalleled hospitality experience in Houston," said Ted Knighton, managing director of the hotel. "With a unique design and stellar location beside Buffalo Bayou Park, we are excited to become a home base for visitors and locals alike, and what will surely be the most sought-after social space for weddings and events."
One of the city’s largest outdoor rooftops, with views of downtown, offers a custom-tiled infinity pool surrounded by cabanas, and a 2,500-square-foot green space for outdoor events.
An entire floor is dedicated to the full-service Thompson Spa, featuring six treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor relaxation areas, saunas, a salon, and a 24-hour fitness center. Hotel guests also receive access to the EOS fitness center, just steps from the hotel.
On the dining front, Sol 7 is the hotel’s signature all-day restaurant. Just off the lobby on the 7th floor, the establishment features rooftop seating and a menu of seasonal fare accompanied by creative cocktails. Maven Coffee Co. serves up specialty coffees, pastries and coffee-based cocktails. Coming soon are two eateries operated by TableOne Hospitality: Chardon, a French brasserie that will open this summer, and Buck 40, an upscale supper club scheduled to debut in the fall. Also opening this spring are Toca Madera, a modern Mexican steakhouse, and Meduza Mediterrania, an inventive Mediterranean dining experience from Noble 33 restaurant group.
The property's 17,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space accommodates groups of up to 800 people. All venues were designed with a residential feel, from intimate executive boardrooms to an 8,000-square-foot ballroom adorned with eclectic mesh chandeliers, brass accents, a private terrace and a private entrance for large groups. The customizable breakout rooms and prefunction space also feature floor-to-ceiling windows, and several of these spaces also have private, wraparound terraces with views of the city.
Guests are welcome to explore the nearby trails on complimentary Thompson Houston-branded Bluejay Electric Bicycles. The hotel is close to the Galleria shopping center, the River Oaks neighborhood, downtown Houston, the Museum District, and professional sports venues Minute Maid Park and Shell Energy Stadium, and is a 25-minute drive from both George Bush Intercontinental Airport and William Hobby Airport.
