The woman's lifeless body was spotted in the River Mersey at Chorlton Water Park, Chorlton, at around 11:10am on March 21, but despite DNA testing and specialist examinations it remains unidentified.

Police still looking to identify a woman whose body was found in a river in south Manchester four months ago have said a crop top she was wearing may help to reveal her identity.

The woman’s lifeless body was spotted in the River Mersey at Chorlton Water Park,Chorlton,at around 11:10am on March 21.

A huge emergency services response attended the scene and pulled the corpse from the water.

But despite extensive investigative work including specialist examinations,DNA testing, and reviews of missing persons records, the identity of the woman remains a mystery,Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have said.

Its thought that the length of time that the woman's body had been left in the water had caused it to decompose, making it difficult to ascertain her identity.

After the tragic discovery, footpaths along the River Mersey were cordoned off, along with entrances to the park,as a tent was erected and forensics conducted investigations at the scene.

Detective Inspector Louise Edwards, from GMP’s Major Investigations Team, previously said: “We remain absolutely committed to discovering the identity of this woman, and we know that someone out there will know who she is.

“We are using every resource available to us as the investigation continues, including assistance from specialist advisers and forensic experts. We are determined to reunite this woman with her family and friends and establish the cause of her death. I would urge anyone with information to please come forward.”
